With the help of my fellow sportswriters at Montgomery Media, Mike Prince and Tom McGlinchey, we have narrowed down the best basketball players this winter, both guys and girls.

This is the unoffical teams, as Montgmery Media has no affiliation with the picks, it just was the criteria to being selected. Players had to play on a team in our coverage area.

We have chosen players from multiple leagues and multiple classifications. While I know some players may have been left off, this is solely based on opinions from what my colleagues and I witnessed over the past three months. These are the players that carried their team with timely shots, game winning buckets and hard fought rebounds.

Without further adieu...

BOYS
FIRST TEAM
Player of the Year - Joe Getz  (Archbishop Wood): Once fellow senior Jack Walsh was lost for the season it was really Getz and all inexpereinced underclassmen. The sharpshooting guard average over 20 points a game and led the Vikings into the playoffs. Getz finished his amazing career with all-catholic league honors, 1242 points, and will attend University of Maryland - Baltimore County next year.
Joe Getz - Archbishop Wood

Jabril Trawick (Abington Friends): The 6-foot-5 shooting guard entered his senior season knowing he was headed to Georgetown, but it did not slow him down with the Roos. He led his club to an 18-7 record and an appearance in the Friends' League championship game, where they lost Friends' Central.

Mike Guldin (Pennridge): The Rams may have been the biggest surprise of the year and none of it was possible without the savvy point guard. Guldin went between the trees with regularity, hit big shot time and time again, and led the Rams to their first league title and a win against West Chester Henderson in the district playoffs. Guldin was named Suburban One Continental Conference player of the year.

Jaylen Bond (Plymouth-Whitemarsh): The Pittsburgh recruit dominated the Suburban One American Conference and he is one of a few players on a team still in action. The 6-foot-7 Bond averages a double-double and forced teams to game plan around him.

Savon Lloyd-Goodman (Academy of the New Church): One of the most talented teams in the area Goodman became the top scoring threat. As a junior he surpassed the 1000 point milestone and before he moves on to Villanova he will come back next year and take a shot at the school's all-time scoring mark.
Eddie Mitchell - LaSalle

SECOND TEAM
Eddie Mitchell (LaSalle)
Jordan Reed (Wissahickon)
Ryan Abel (Lower Moreland)
Rakeem Christmas (Academy of the New Church)
Jimmy Hammer (Germantown Academy)

Godfrey Baldez - PMCA
THIRD TEAM
Dondre Perry (Faith Christian)
Sam Pygatt (Plymouth-Whitemarsh)
Kenny Johnson (Abington Friends)
Godfrey Baldez (PhilMont Christian)
Matt Possanza (North Penn)

Tim Abruzzo - Pennridge

HONORABLE MENTION
Aaron Webb (Norristown)
Marcus Gilbert (Academy New Church)
David Hunsberger (Calvary Baptist)
Tim Abruzzo (Pennridge)
Jack Kinniry (Jenkintown)

GIRLS
FIRST TEAM
Player of the Year - Mary Jo Horgan (Mount St. Joe's): When the Magic need a steal Horgan is there. When they need a basket, Horgan has the ball in her hands. The 1000 point scorer has done it for three straight seasons now and with a district championship already won she has hopes of leading her team to a state title before she heads to Lehigh. The Magic is loaded with talented players, but it begins and ends with Horgan.
Mary Jo Horgan - Mount

Steph Knauer (North Penn): The Suburban One Continental Conference player of the year led the Maidens in scoring (14.6 ppg) and rebounds and had them a win away from a state title birth. The junior is a mismatch for most and she seems only to be getting better.

Ashley Alden (William Tennent): Alden may be going to Rutgers to play softball, but do not discount her hoop prowess. The senior averaged over 14 points per game and led the Panthers to a district playoff home game.

CC Andrews (Cheltenham): Nobody in the area runs the floor and drives to the basket like Ciara "CC" Andrews. The quick and athletic Panther scored 19 points per game and led her team back to the state playoffs, before being ousted by the Mount on Mar. 16th in the second round of play.

Elise DiFilippo (Springfield): The Spartans have become the team to beat in District One Class AA and it has a lot to do with their senior point guard. DiFilippo can drill one from deep or maneuver her way between the big bodies in the paint. She has been the heart and soul of the two-time defending district champs. DiFilippo scored 20 points in the overtime win over Christopher Dock in the district championship at Villanova.

Jacqui Thompson - St. Basil
SECOND TEAM
Steph Keyes (Archbishop Wood)
Jacqui Thompson (St. Basil)
Aiyannah Peal (Abington)
Taylor Bryant (Upper Dublin)
Mariah Traywick (Spring-Ford)

Cutrena Goff - Upper Dublin

THIRD TEAM
Christine Verrelle (Archbishop Wood)
Steph Smith (Mount St. Joe's)
Shea Wassel (Lansdale Catholic)
Gabby Schumacher (Plymouth-Whitemarsh)
Cutrena Goff (Upper Dublin)

Jenessa Derstine - Dock
HONORABLE MENTION
Jenessa Derstine (Christopher Dock)
Tiffany Johnson (Cheltenham)
Carly Kendall (Souderton)
Allie Morganstein (Lower Moreland)
