GAME OF THE WEEK: Norristown 58, Wissahickon 56 (2 OTs) - The Trojans were walking on water until the Eagles made a big splash in the Suburban One American Conference last Tuesday. Behind balanced scoring the Eagles held off the first place team in two overtimes. Area's leading scorer Jordan Reed and point guard Chase Wilson both missed the overtime. Reed, finished with 19 points, but fouled out. Wilson dislocated his finger. The Eagles celebrated the big win.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Anthony McKie (Plymouth-Whitemarsh) - It turns out the Colonials two-guard might just be better off at the point. An injury to their starting point guard put the ball in McKie's hands and the junior took full advantage of it. McKie broke a school record by scoring 47 points against Math, Civics and Sciences. He followed the dynamo showing up with 30 points against Upper Moreland. The week did not end so well for the Colonials with a loss to Upper Dublin, but McKie still scored 15 points in the loss making it an outstanding 30.1 points per game for the week.

Top 10 MLB 1-2 punches of all-time

By Andrew Marcus

The acquisition by the Detriot Tigers of Prince Fielder sparked my baseball brain. I could not help think of the possibilities Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera have playing together. Don't get me wrong, Braun was no slouch as a tag-team partner, but Cabrera has never had someone hitting behind him like Cecil's boy. The damage they could do together might be good enough to one day crack my list of top 10 1-2 combos on all-time.

10. Albert Pujols and Jim Edmonds (2004 St. Louis Cardinals) - Pujols has never had that bonafide hall-of-famer hitting behind him, but that just shows you what El Hombre can do for a career. Guys like Scott Rolen and Jim Edmonds had their best years hitting behind King Albert. It should be a fun year for Torii Hunter in Los Angeles. In '04 Pujols and Edmonds combined for 88 homers and 247 RBIs.

9. Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire (1988 Oakland Athletics) - The Bash Brothers were the big ticket in the late '80s and I am going to over look the steroid talk because I still think they dominated their era. But, that's a topic for another day. Canseco was the first 40-40 member that season and Big Mac was only 24 and hit 32 homers in a year considered to be a clean year for McGwire.

8. Willie Mays and Willie McCovey (1963 San Francisco Giants) - The seven year difference in age made it difficult to see them both put big years at the same time, but I guess in 1963 when the combined for 82 homers and 205 RBIs wasn't half bad.

7. Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent (2000 San Fransico Giants) - Jeff Kent does not get enough credit for being a great player becuase he always had the luxury of hitting behind the home run king. In 2000 the all-time home run leader for second basemen hit 33 bombs and drove in 125 while Bonds had a standard year with 49-106. The two also combined to hit .320 and score 243 runs.

6. Jimmie Foxx and Al Simmons (1929 Philadelphia Athletics) - I think because Al Simmons never won a MVP people don't really remember his name as much as Foxx and other 1920 greats. In '29 Simmons was the better half of this combo hitting .365 and driving in 157 runs. Foxx was OK hitting .354 with 33 homers and 118 RBIs.

5. Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris (1961 New York Yankees) - Roger Maris did not have a hall-of-fame career, but his pursuit of the single season home run record in 1961 will never be forgotten. Maris did get good pitches to hit because Mantle hit .318 and smacked 54 homers himself.

4. Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz (2005 Boston Red Sox) - Sometimes it is hard to put something that happen relatively a short time ago into historical perspective, but these two were out of this world. How about a combined 92 homers 292 RBIs in 2005. So dangerous on an all-time scale.

3. Hank Aaron and Eddie Mathews (1957 Milwaukee Braves) - They won the World Series and Aaron picked up his first MVP award. But you do not win the WS without help. Warren Spahn was a 21-game winner and hall-of-famer Eddie Mathews chipped in with 32 long balls. They were great 1-2 punch for an extended period of time.

2. Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez (1998 Seattle Mariners) - Only if Starbucks came around in time to help Seattle afford to keep these two together longer. The Mariners had a strong foursome if you include Jay Buhner and Edgar Martinez. A-Rod and the Kid combined for 98 HRs and 270 RBIs. They helped hook me to the sport when I was in fifth grade.

1. Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig (1927 New York Yankees) - The combos of all-combos had 13 sensational years together and The Murder's Row team of 1927 is still the best lineup ever still after of these years in a lot of people's mind. Ruth hit 60 that year (164 RBIs) and Gehrig drove in 175 runs (47 HRs). The both hit over .350 and those two teammates will hard to be ever outdone.

This was a spur of the moment list off the top, came from the top of my head, so I hope I did not miss any names that deserve to be on here. I pretty sure all these combos dominated in the era they played together.

Only a few long months until the season starts...

GAME OF THE WEEK: Central Bucks South 85, Pennridge 79 (2 OTs) - It looked like Pennridge was going to get everything it asked for against the Titans - a much needed conference win and senior Tim Abruzzo's 1,000 point in his career. After storming back from a nine point Titans' lead at the half, the Rams were unable to hold on. Behind Dave Knox's 28 points and a 14-7 advantage in the sixth quarter the Titans prevailed.  The Rams still had reason to celebrate as Abruzzo finished with 39 points, eclipsing the 1000 career benchmark.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Luke Moyer (Souderton) - Don't look now but the Indians are right in the middle of the Suburban One Continental Conference title picture and a lot of thanks goes to point guard Luke Moyer. The senior dropped 32 points against Central Bucks West on Thursday to draw even with the Bucks atop the standings. Moyer is averaging 16.5 points per game and he has taken over down the stretch in nearly even one of the Indians' 11 wins.

Top 15 MLB Names You Will Learn in 2012

By Andrew Marcus

Follow me on Twitter @amarcus515

Last year Philadelphians got acquainted with some players for all the wrong reasons. David Freese, Chris Carpenter, Clayton Kershaw just to name a few.

They may be players that are already well known in their home cities, but because of their performance in 2012 these names became common knowledge for the Philadelphia baseball fan base.

So who will it be in 2012? Whether it is because they are rising stars in the Philadelphia Phillies' division, the National League East, or because they will grab the headlines nationally, the average baseball fan from the City of Brotherly Love will be familiar with them by season's end.

So without further adieu - Philadelphia, I'd like you to meet...

15. Bryce Harper (Nationals) - I assume the majority of above average baseball fans already know Harper, fore he has been tagged the best thing to come out of high school since the NBA's Lebron James. Good luck taking the road trip to Washington this year without hearing how Harper and Stephen Strasburg are going to take over the East.

14. Brett Lawrie (Blue Jays) - It's very possible that the Canadian Club (not the whiskey, but the Jays) is going to be in a dog fight during the dog days of summer this season. Young pitchers will emerge, but the name you will hear the most about is the Canadian born third basemen. Lawrie should have a great first full season in Toronto and the Nation will clench tight to the hometown boy does good story.

13. Ike Davis (Mets) - Jose Reyes is still hated, but from a further distance as he made the move to South Beach this offseason. There has to be a most hated Met. David Wright has too much of the ladies' affection, so I'll give it to the emerging first basemen who should be a tough out whenever the Phils square off with New York.

12. Julio Teheran (Braves) - Every year it seems like another Brave starting pitcher takes the training wheels off and becomes a nightmare for the Phillies' lineup. By now most Phillies fans know Tommy Hanson and Tim Hudson, so now it's this Dominican fireballer's turn to frustrate a Philadelphia fan base searching for 2008's offense.

11. Eric Hosmer (Royals) - I feel like he's the second coming of Joey Votto the year he took off and won MVP for the Reds. This may be a tough sell to the nation because he plays in Kansas City, but if the Royals have any sustained success this big boy will be behind it.

10. Jason Heyward (Braves) - This is more of a remember me. He did not deliver right away two years ago like people though he might, but now in his third season at the age of 22 this kid is bound to give Philadelphia headaches.

9. Heath Bell (Marlins) - I would like to welcome the new loud mouth closer of the Miami Marlins to the N.L. East. I'd be surprised if he made it out of Spring Training without a comment that got under Philadelphia's skin. He might deserve to be higher on this list as he will become one of the most hated men in Philadelphia next to Sidney Crosby, Eli Manning and Andy Reid.

8. Matt Moore (Rays) - The nation got a taste of the Rays newest prized starter in the first round of the playoffs, but how many Philadelphians were actually watching the Texas-Tampa series? Moore will join David Price and Jeremy Hellickson in the next big thing out of Tampa. We're looking at a Rookie of the Year no-brainer.

7. Jesus Montero (Mariners) - Whether it's because the Mariners are still awful or Montero is blowing up, one of the biggest trades of the off season will be in the news all season.

6. Michael Pineda (Yankees) - The other part in the Montero deal is young fireballer Pineda, who is now decked out in pin stripes. Whether Pineda can and or cannot handle the Bronx pressure will be a story line all season.

5. Dustin Ackley (Mariners) - A teammate of Montero (no, not by trade), the 2nd pick behind Bryce Harper two years ago is ready to take off. People are calling him the next Chase Utley. Soon as Philly gets a whiff of Utley's name, they will have to see what the Mariners' second basemen is all about.

4. Michael Trout (Angels) - For the first few months all the focus will be on the Angels and how Albert Pujols is adjusting to his new digs out west. But once they realize King Albert is the same ol' King Albert they will turn to the lead-off man scoring at an unheard-of pace for a rookie. Trout is speedster that could grab the headlines quickly and make the Angels' offense dynamic.

3. Andrew McCutchen (Pirates) - Some of you may know McCutchen as he enters his fourth full season with the Pirates. But the average fan may not - until this year. McCutchen has all the tools to put together a 30 homerun, 30 steal season. While right now Matt Kemp is the easy answer for best center fielder in the game, McCutchen won't make that answer so easy to spit out.

2. Gio Gonzalez (Nationals) - I wonder how many people remember Gio when he was a Phillie? Probably not many because he was traded with Gavin Floyd to the White Sox for Freddy Garica (ouch) before he could make it out of Reading. Now, Gonzalez returns to the division as a National and he gives the Nats a healthy 1-2 punch with Stephen Strasburg. Gonzalez is a nightmare the Phillies won't be able to wake up from for at least the next five years.

1. Yu Darvish (Rangers) - Remember the hype Daisuke received when he joined the Red Sox a few years back? Well take that hype and add it with he is actually the real deal and you have the story of 2012. Darvish is better than Matsuzaka in every way. He's younger, stronger, taller and more accomplished. He may even lead the Rangers to their third straight World Series. I'm sure Philadelphia is hoping it's against their Phightins'.

Top 10 Boys Basketball Coaches of Montgomery Media's Coverage Area
*** I'd like to stipulate this by saying I have not seen some of the coaches in our coverage area as much as others, or at all. If I leave someone off that you disagree with, just realize it's from one sportswriter point of view, based on what I have seen or heard since I starting covering boys basketball in 2009.

1. Jim Donofrio (Plymouth-Whitemarsh) - Coach Donofrio has had some impact players, but his game plan and exposing opponent's weakness has been impressive to watch.

2. Jim Fenerty (Germantown Academy) - There's a reason coach has not left his spot in Fort Washington for the last 23 years and I respect that. I have only covered one G.A. game in four years, but I hope that changes. It seems like he always has a fun group to watch.

3. Dennis Stanton (Souderton) - Everything he says has meaning to it and he comes across as having an extremely high basketball IQ.

4. Dean Behrens (Pennridge) - A motivator like no other. I am a little bias, because I have seen more Pennridge games than all the other schools put together, but he finds a way to get his players to play hard every night.

5. Tony DaCosta (Christopher Dock) - Coach does more with less every season and they always are 200 times better when the playoffs roll around from when the season starts.

6. Kevin Givens (Academy New Church) - Granted a lot of big prospects want to come play for coach Givens, but he still gets his team to buy into a team first mentality and wins seem to follow wherever they go.

7. Kyle Wilson (Wissahickon) - Honestly, I will cover my first Wiss game this weekend (actually two Wiss games this weekend) but if I take the opinion of some of my colleagues I have heard nothing but good things.

8. Jack Walsh (Archbishop Wood) - A lot of people thought it would be a rough year for Walsh's crew, but they either have reloaded or just bougt into the system that has been in place for the last four years.

9. Josh Adelman (Upper Dublin) - He does not have the Division-1 talent, but he uses his bench better than anyone I have seen and knows he should be on the court and how to exploit match-ups.

10. Charles Grasty (Abington) -After a 9-13 season in year one, coach Grasty has him to playing like they iwll playing in the state playoffs and be a scary opponent for teams in the District One tournament.

GAME OF THE WEEK: Bensalem 58, Abington 54 (2 OTs) - Abington's off nights have been few and far between this season as the surprise team of the area. And it was not even a complete off night that forced one of the greatest games of the year so far, but it did end in a Galloping Ghost loss. The emerging Eagles fought back from an early deficit to force overtime and in the second extra frame they gave the Ghost their third loss of the season.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Zameer McDowell (Spring-Ford) - Nobody in Royersford has seen a performance like the one junior displayed last Tuesday against Phoenixville since 1989. McDowell dropped a 22-year old record by scoring 44 points. He also pulled down 18 rebounds in a 75-40 win for the Rams. McDowell was 18-for-28 from the floor. He continued his dominance in non-league action later in the week scoring 14 against Abington and 12 points against North Penn.
