GAME OF THE WEEK: Pennridge 33, Emmaus 27 - Turnovers early had the the Rams reeling against their old football coach Randy Cuthbert and his new team, the Green Hornets. But the senior captains refocused and turned in a performance in Week One that will end up being a huge highlight of the season. Matt Pasquale hit Micah Stutzman with two seconds to tie the game Mike Class found the end zone for the third time in OT to end the game in thrilling fashion. CLICK HERE TO READ THE STORY

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: John Derr (Upper Dublin); Upper Dublin 45, Central Bucks West 21- The Flying Cardinals quarterback remembered his first career start too well. The Bucks bashed Derr in last season's opener, but hobbled or not, Derr did the job on Friday. The big senior quarterback ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns and got his revenge. Who knows what his numbers would have been if he did not leave the game at half-time with a separated shoulder. READ THE GAME STORY

High School Football: Two-a-Days: William Tennent and Wissahickon

By Andrew Marcus
Sportswriter for The Lansdale Reporter

To help pass the time between now and the start of the 2013 PIAA High School Football season I am going to be giving a look at two teams a day. I will give try to call out a few impact student athletes on offense, defense, as well as pinpoint one of the storylines as they open training camp.

Check this blog all season for scores, stats, and predictions, and players of the week...

Head Coach: Bob Rosenberger

Last year's record: 4-6 overall, 3-4 in Suburban One National Conference

Training Camp Question: Rosenberger made his dream job  a reality this summer. It was not a straight path to Warminster, as he got caught up in Horsham for a few days, but eventually the former Panther player himself got his chance to turn Tennent around. Last year as the defensive coordinator for Pennridge Rosenberger built a "brickwall-of-a-unit" with undersized players. He will have to try that one more time with the Panthers in the talented National Conference. In 2014 when the conferences are aligned by school size, the sky is the limit if the team can buy into Rosenberger's energy-filled coaching style.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Alex Perks (RB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Mark Isaac (DE)
Breakout: Jr. Nik Banks (QB)

Head Coach: Jeff Cappa

Last year's record: 8-4 overall, 5-2 in Suburban One American Conference

Training Camp Question: Jeff Cappa spent the season last year throwing out cliche lines to media after every game. "We just want to get better every game," he would say. And as excited as he was about a win, the same emotion level was received after a loss. The Trojans stayed calm, cool, and collected, just like coach Cappa preached, and when the time came - they pounced. The Trojans finished the regular season strong, sneaked into the District One playoffs and took down the top seed in the playoffs. Even with several starters lost to graduation, the experience of last year's postseason shocker helps the Trojans enter this year knowing anything is obtainable with hard work, one game at a time.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Dave Stellato (QB)
Defensive Standout: Jr. Colin Williams (OLB)
Breakout: Sr. Chase Wilson (WR)

Head Coach: Steve Moyer

Last year's record: 0-10 overall, 0-9 in PAC-10

Training Camp Question: There is nowhere to go but up for the Indians. And because of some talented players back in the mix, there is reason to believe "up" could mean a postseason appearance, and possible win, in Class AAA on the horizon. If you take the Indians lightly this season senior Aidan Schaffer will be sure to scramble you up. The big-time running back knows coach Moyer's offensive playbook like back of his hand and could be in store for an all-league worthy year. This year will be all about proving people wrong. One win at a time.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Aidan Schaffer (RB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Travis Kline (DB)
Breakout: Jr. Wyatt Brumm (QB)

Head Coach: Adam Beach

Last year's record: 7-5 overall, 4-3 in Suburban One American Conference

Training Camp Question: The Golden Bears have their man back in Adam Beach and the club could not be happier. The purple and gold reached the playoffs last season under Dave Heying, but his two year-stint came to end when he moved on to coach defense at Pennridge. Beach, who coached from 2004-2010 was ready to resume his head coaching duties on Terwood Road. Beach inherits a strong senior class and even stronger chance to make a deep run in the Class AAA playoffs.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Charlie Hooker (QB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Drew Finnie (LB)
Breakout: Sr. CJ Jackson (RB)

Head Coach: Bret Stover

Last year's record: 6-4 overall, 4-3 in Suburban One American Conference

Training Camp Question: This two-a-day is all about the quarterbacks because the maturity of the Flying Cardinals' John Derr and the Vikings' Carmen Fortino could shape the American Conference. Year two with a Derr under center brings big expectations and anything but a spot in the District One playoffs would be a disappointment. If the senior signal caller can eclipse his 800 plus yards and 12 touchdowns from a season ago, a playoff spot should not be much of a problem for Stover's squad

Offensive Standout: Sr. John Derr (QB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Ryan Swinski (FS)
Breakout: Jr. Tamir Bailey (DT)

Head Coach: Harold Smith

Last year's record: 2-9 overall, 1-6 in Suburban One American Conference

Training Camp Question: The 1600 passing yards and 19 touchdowns are nice numbers for a junior quarterback, but Carmen Fortino will have to do better than his 19 interceptions in his senior year if the Vikings want to make a run at a conference crown. Fortino showed he can sling it when trailing, but if he can balance that with more good decisions, and playing with a lead, the Vikings could surprise a lot of people this season.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Carmen Fortino (QB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Clay Greenway (LB)
Breakout: Sr. Jequan Mitchell (RB)

Head Coach: Chris Shelly

Last year's record: 5-6 overall, 1-6 in Suburban One American Conference

Training Camp Question: Back in the SOL for another year, can the Spartans stand up to the big, bad American Conference. Things may be easier if their big junior Chris Stone can limit the mistakes and take advantage of his big arm. One thing is for sure though, this team is going to compete because coach Chris Shelly's passion for his players is such as positive influence and his team will always give it everything they have.

Offensive Standout: Jr. Chris Stone (QB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Jhaloni Johnson (DB)
Breakout: Jr. Martin Worgan (RB)

Head Coach: Chad Brubaker

Last year's record: 12-3 overall, 7-2 in PAC-10

Training Camp Question: The combination of Jarred Jones and Tate Carter is tantilizing and the duo should have no problem racking up the yards this season. But the Rams still are trying to figure out how they are going to get the ball in their hands and who is going to be this year's quarterback. The trio of Zac DeMedio, Brandon Leacraft, and Matt Daywalt are all competing for the chance to pick up where Hank Coyne, the school's all-time leader in yards and touchdowns, left off. Coyne's at Juniata and if one of the three possible quarterbacks and step in and grasp Brubaker's offense, the Rams could make another deep postseason run.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Jarred Jones (RB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Mason Romano (DE)
Breakout: Jr. Matt Daywalt (QB)

Head Coach: Don Grinstead

Last year's record: 6-6 overall, 4-5 in PAC-10

Training Camp Question: With so many weapons at first year head coach Don Grinstead's disposal he is excited for the season to kickoff. But in order to put his speedy skill players in motion he needs his line to hold their blocks. Jalontae Lighty is the lone senior of the unit and block some youngsters are going to be asked to some serious defenders that roam around the PAC-10. If the offensive line can hold its ground the Trojans have strong chance on improving from last season's record under Grinstead.

Offensive Standout:  Sr. Jalontae Lighty (OL)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Dayon Mohler (SS)
Breakout: Jr. Gary Wise (QB)

Head Coach: Ed Gallagher

Last year's record: 7-4 overall, 4-3 in Suburban One Continental Conference

Training Camp Question: It is clearly a blow to the Indians to lose Villanova commit Rick Young prior to his senior season (surgery on broken leg), but there is still enough talent on the offensive and defensive lines to make it a strength. The Indians are big and strong in the trenches and their ability to push-over the opposition should give senior quarterback AJ Curotto time and give whoever is running the ball plenty of holes to drive through.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Marcus Miller (RB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. James Dunston (DE)
Breakout: Sr. A.J. Curotto (QB)

Head Coach: Mike Santillo

Last year's record: 1-9 overall, 1-8 in PAC-10

Training Camp Question: Just when you think the future is all planned out, an unexpected wrench twists up the plans. A sensational junior year on the baseball diamond has led to shortstop James Bleming becoming a full-time shortstop and ditching the helmet and pads. But one thing coach Santillo does not do is panic. Junior Matt Mesaros should take over the quarterbacking duties smoothly and with all the weapons he has around him be able to chuck the ball all over the field like they have in the past few seasons. Though the air attack did not lead to wins last season, so therefore no matter who the quarterback is the PAC-10 program hopes to be a bit more balanced in 2013.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Nick Howarth (RB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Tim Tadros (DB)
Breakout: Jr. Matt Mesaros (QB)

Head Coach: Rick Pennypacker

Last year's record: 11-1 overall, 9-0 in PAC-10

Training Camp Question: The Falcons have been a force in the league, district, and even the state for several years now and they plan on playing for a few championships this season again. But if ever there was a year they needed some players to breakthrough it is this year. The Falcons lost nearly 2,400 rushing yards to graduation behind the combo of Tory Hudgins and Mark Dukes. That is a lot of production to replace, but the Falcons are fearless, will stay calm, and the let prestige of the program carry them to another title shot.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Michael Fowler (WR)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Jeff Adams (LB)
Breakout: Sr. Marquis Barefield (RB)

Head Coach: Scott Reed

Last year's record: 8-3 overall (7-2 in PAC-10)

Training Camp Question: Last year the Vikings' no-huddle offense exploded on the scene behind quarterback Rasaan Stewart. With the 6-foor-1, 180 pound, Division-One prospect back under center the PAC-10 team believes there is plenty room for improvement. Stewart may be recruited as a safety, but he is clearly one of the most dynamic offensive players in the area and he has plenty of weapons at hid disposal including Mark Bonomo and Clay Domine. The Vikings are going to score points, the big question is can the defense carry its weight.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Rasaan Stewart (QB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Mark Bonomo (LB)
Breakout: Sr. Dakota Clanagan (WR)

Head Coach: Dan Chang

Last year's record: 9-2 overall (7-0 in Suburban One American Conference)

Training Camp Question: A year ago people were concerned how the Colonials would replace Xavier Ellington. Enter this camp and there is double the concern. Terry Brown and Corey Kelly made it "Xavier who" by each collecting 1,000 yards on the ground and 29 rushing scores. The names such as Brian Afflick and Manny Jones may not be well known around the area right now, but they will have a chance to follow in Brown and Kelly's shoes and emerge as the lead backs for conference contending club.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Brian Afflick (RB)
Defensive Standout: Jr. Ryan Bischoff (LB)
Breakout: So. Manny Jones (RB)

Head Coach: Dick Beck

Last year's record: 6-4 overall (4-2 in Suburban One Continental Conference)

Training Camp Question: The talent on the field is apparent and the size on the offensive and defensive line is impressive. But the Knights still need at least one guy to become a game-changer. There are several with the skills to do so, but one that can elude tackles, throw a clutch back-shoulder strike, or sack the quarterback at the most crucial times are rare. The list of possible play-makers for coach Dick Beck is long, starting with senior quarterback Austin Shearer, down to the ball-hawking safties in the secondary. Someone is going to breakthrough and help this team strive for more than a 6-4 record this season. We just may not know who until the season starts.

Offensive Standout: Jr. Frank Tranzilli (OL)
Defensive Standout: Jr. Kris Akins (DB)
Breakout: Sr. Luke Berry (FB/LB)

Head Coach: Jeff Hollenbach

Last year's record: 12-2 overall (6-0 in Suburban One Continental Conference)

Training Camp Question: A lot of attention has been pointed at new head man Jeff Hollenbach, but the biggest changes may be in the personnel. The Rams lost a strong senior class that led them to the final four of the District One playoffs. They were strong because of their skill, but also their leadership abilities. There is no doubt the Rams will hit at least one or two speed bumps this season and it is up to the new crop of seniors to help this squad stay focused on the big picture. The captains Mike Class, Micah Stutzman, Shane Kraynik and Matt Pasquale are all used to leading with actions. The foursome will be challenged to be more vocal and uplifting than ever. It could be the difference between a league repeat or a few too many defeats.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Mikey Class (RB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Peter Psomiadis (CB)
Breakout: Sr. Micah Stutzman (WR)

Head Coach: Paul Lepre

Last year's record: 6-5 overall (5-4 in PAC-10)

Training Camp Question: For quarterback Brandon Bossard, the chains always seemed closer than they appeared for others players. But now his athleticism and speed is in the rear view mirror at Methacton it is up to this crop of seniors to share the leadership role. One man does not make the team, as the Warriors witness with the 6-5 record last season. While Bossard and his 21 touchdowns is off to Eastern Michigan, coach Lepre may be left with a larger collections of play-makers this season.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Dillon Alderfer (WR)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Michael Cassidy (LB)
Breakout: Sr. Kyle Lowery (QB/DB)

Head Coach: E.J. Smith

Last year's record: 1-10 overall (1-6 in Suburban One American Conference)

Training Camp Question: The Eagles' football roster was made up of a ton of pure athletes last season. But coach Smith hopes he s bringing back football players this fall. The rough and tough experiences of 2012 should benefit the blooming group of speedsters. The Suburban One American Conference is made up of hard-nosed defenses, but players like Sonny Brewer, Khalif Lyons and Curtis Pardea could wind up being a tough trio to tame.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Sonny Brewer (QB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Curtis Pardea (CB)
Breakout: So. Rashon Lusane (SS)

Head Coach: Drew Gordon

Last year's record: 12-2 overall (3-1 in AAAA PCL)

Training Camp Question: A new era of football for the Philadelphia Eagles has directly benefited the LaSalle Explorers, who just so happened to be looking for a new starting quarterback. Chris Kane catapulted from tight end to a All-League signal caller. Kyle Shurmur, the son of Eagles' offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, was no tight end. He just is coming from Ohio, where he lived when the father Shurmur was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Shurmur has the size, 6-4, 210, but not so much experience. The Philadelphia Catholic League is sure to test the transfer out immediately.

Offensive Standout: Jr. Jimmy Herron (RB/WR)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Zaire Franklin (LB)
Breakout: Jr. Kyle Shurmur (QB)

Head Coach: Mark Mayson

Last year's record: 6-3 overall (4-2 in BAL)

Training Camp Question: Mark Mayson has been rolling out his Wishbone Offense for over three decades now and more times than not he gets his hard nosed teams to execute. Mayson's mindset is perform a few things well, if not to perfection, tackle on defense, and the wins will follow. The fullback dive is a main stay and this season with the powerful Joe Leventhal carrying the quick pitch power plays, the Lions should be able to give the BAL a run for its money. Mayson molds minds and makes athletes into football players.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Joe Leventhal (FB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Anthony Morales (DE)

Head Coach: Anthony Owens

Last year's record: 3-6 overall (1-5 in BAL)

Training Camp Question: Just when the Drakes start seeing the results of working all season to learn a new coach's schemes and strategies the season ends. The off-season begins with excitement heading into year two, in this case, with Phil Gormly. But for the all the momentum gained by finishing strong, it gets squashed when the changing of the guard happens again. Anthony Owens will be the Drakes sixth head coach in seven years. Harold Smith (08-09) was the only guy to hang in with small school for back-to-back seasons and those seniors are now where freshman in their final year. Bottom line for the Drakes is they need to go out, have fun, and play football, hope Owens can show them a thing or two. Maybe he sticks around for more than one season.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Jake Hamilton (RB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Cooper Beaupre (LB)
Breakout: Jr. Jamie Griffin (QB)

Head Coach: Tom Kirk

Last year's record: 5-5 overall (1-2 in AAA PCL)

Training Camp Question: READ Lansdale Reporter Sportswriter Mike Cabrey's full story here about year two under AA Philadelphia Catholic League Coach of the Year Tom Kirk

Offensive Standout: Sr. Zach Talley (TE)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Nick Albanese (DL)
Breakout: Jr. Joe Pinzka (QB)

Head Coach: Matt Dence

Last year's record: 3-6 overall (0-5 in Inter-Ac)

Training Camp Question: The frame for a future stud quarterback has opened eyes ever since Hayes Nolte first lined up under center in Fort Washington, PA. Now he enters his final year and Nolte is still looking to put it all together. In the past we have see Nolte make more than one great throw, but he also has been hampered by hiccup on occasion. The hope is another year in head coach Matt Dence's offense should help the 6-foot-4, 225 pound pocket passer flourish. If Nolte can breakthrough in his final year with the Patriots he may find some college coaches knocking on his door and G.A. contenders in the Inter-Ac.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Myles Anthony (RB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Patrick Cawley (LB)
Breakout: Sr. Hayes Nolte (QB)

Head Coach: Michael Kapusta

Last year's record: 1-11 overall (1-6 in Suburban One Continental Conference)

Training Camp Question: The former North Penn grad and assistant coach Michael Kapusta has his hands full with the Hatters. They struggled the past few seasons under Gary Pagliaro and are in major need of an uplifting experience. It is possible that one practice or one play could trigger energy and momentum in the right direction, but that will be Kapusta biggest challenge as he begins to build toward the future. He will face Norristown, the school he teaches at, in a Week One non-leauger and then twice against his Alma Matter. If the goal is playoffs in year one or two Kapusta's top job this season is to put his stamp on the program and re-energizing the school.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Luke Spahits (RB)
Defensive Standout: Jr. Jeff Panara (LB)
Breakout: Jr. Charlie Obrecht (RB/DB)

Head Coach: Brian Hensel

Last year's record: 5-5 overall (3-4 in Suburban One Continental Conference)

Training Camp Question: While there will be plenty of new faces on offense this season the Bucks bring back three of their top four wide receivers from a season ago. Whether it is senior John Fitz surveying his options or someone else at quarterback, the trio of Mark Ciaudelli, Corey Schott and Joe Ramos are comforting to have. The three senior wideouts combined for 100 catches and 1053 yards in 2012. Hensel may not go to the air 30 times a game, but the Bucks are bound to make a few big plays in the passing game this season.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Mark Ciaudelli (WR)
Defensive Standout: So. Sebastian Silva (LB)
Breakout: Sr. John Fitz (QB)

Head Coach: Joe Gro

Last year's record: 8-4 overall (5-2 in Suburban One American Conference)

Training Camp Question: Sure, Joe Gro knows the ins and outs of the football playbook. But what makes him a great coach is his ability to get through to his players, all with different personalities. He manages young people and finds a way to put the Panthers in a position to win football games, sometimes when on paper outsiders are not so optimistic. Yes, Gro will give it to you straight on occasion, not known to sugarcoat anything, but he loves his players and he loves football. The Panthers have a chance to contend every season in the Suburban One American Conference under Gro.

Offensive Standout: Jr. Jack Gordon (OL)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Mark Heiman (DB)
Breakout: Jr. Greg Morris (RB)
