Breakin' down the Montgomery Media 1st round Match-Ups
Plymouth-Whitemarsh at Cheltenham - Wins by 27 points on the road and five points at home are enough for me to NOT enforce the "third time's a charm" rule. Led by C.C. Andrews the Panthers have too much offense for the Colonials to contend. There best chance will be making the game slow down as much as possible. They will need to excel in the half court sets and not the allow the to Panthers run.
Ridley at Methacton - It's been a stellar year for the Warriors, but the district playoffs and the pressure of garnering a high seed could be a lot to handle for the young group. The key for the Warriors will be controlling their emotions. If they can relax and do what they have done all season they should flirt with a state playoff berth.
Council Rock North at North Penn - The rivalry continues to build between these two. The Indians knocked off the Maidens in districts last season and this year during the regular season the got revenge. A 50-32 win by the Maidens a month ago resides in the Indians mind and now it is their turn try and end the Maidens season in upsetting fashion.
William Tennent at Downingtown West - The Panthers have been competitive in nearly every game and were able to earn 13 wins this season, but nothing that really scream they can compete with a top four seed like Whippets. Win or lose it should be a good experience for a young Panther team.
Bayard Rustin at Abington - The Galloping Ghosts have five stellar seniors that bring a good mix of skills and leadership. Expect Aiyannah Peal and Sarah Listenbee to lead the charge and if they can get anything from young and emerging star freshman Deja Rawls this could be a dangerous double digit seed team.
Radnor at Mount Saint Joseph - The Red Raiders draw the defending district champs and they are slightly ticked off after coughing up the Catholic Academies league championship on Monday. The Magic play some of the most discipline defense in the area and it will be a good challenge for the Raiders to see if they can reach 40 points. They need to force the Magic to run and and not set up and a half court offense and they could pull off the upset of the first round.
Chichester at Spring-Ford - The inside-out game of the Rams will be a tall task for Chichester. With senior Mariah Traywick at center and sophomore guard Sammy Stipa the Rams can beat you in a variety of ways. They both can take over the game offensively and it's a big reason they are one of the top scoring teams in the district.
Sun Valley at Upper Dublin - Other than losses to a top school from Maryland, the third seeded Spring-Ford and twice to top seeded Cheltenham the Flying Cardinals have been flawless. They bring back state playoff experience from a season ago and they are on a mission. The Cardinals can turn the ball over and get sloppy at times, but if they take care of the ball they could ride senior Taylor Bryant and junior Cutrena Goff all the way to the final four in districts.
