GAME OF THE WEEK: Plymouth-Whitemarsh 35, Cheltenham 28 (OT)  - The Colonials looked cooked thanks to the running of Cheltenham's Mark Thompson, but once again the duo of Corey Kelly and Terry Brown helped their squad find a way to win. Brown broke off a 53-yard score and Kelly completed the comeback with a four-yard plunge in overtime. CLICK HERE TO READ THE GAME STORY

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kyle Mayfield (North Penn) - It was just a little reminder to the Suburban One Continental Conference that a road to the championship still goes through Lansdale. The Knights' star tailback starred on Friday in the blow out of Quakertown. Mayfield scored four times and ran for 142 yards on eight carries before the Knights got the subs in. GAME OF THE WEEK: William Tennent 20, Neshaminy 17 - Jimmy Lewick came down in the end zone with 1.6 left on the clock. It took him a second to realize the 18 yard touchdown pass from Joe Lutz lifted the Panthers to a win over the perennial conference powerhouse. It was the Panthers first win over the Redskins since 1991.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kevin Sabo (Lansdale Catholic) - The Crusaders will tell you there is a lot of football left to be played, but it hard not to be excited about the first month of magic. It has been a long time since the Crusaders kicked off a season with so much success. The senior fullback Sabo starred in the 35-0 win over Bishop McDevitt on Friday. His 130 yards and three touchdowns helped his team move to 4-0 in the young season.

GAME OF THE WEEK: Germantown Academy 7, The Hill School 6 - Junior Quarterback Hayes Nolte hit  Joe Taylor with a 28-yard strike in the second quarter and then let the defense do the rest. The Patriots put their helmets and pads to use and contained the Blues all afternoon. Finally with three minutes remaining the Blues scored, but a high snap on the extra point allowed the Patriots to hold on for the one-point win.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tom Garlick (Archbishop Wood) - The first loss in 15 weeks for the Vikings shook them up so much that coach Steve Devlin decided to shake up his starting lineup. He moved quarterback Chris Rahill out to wide receiver and introduced Frankford and the world to freshman Tom Garlick. The 6-foot-4 wide eyed signal caller wasted little time in showing off his ability. The freshman went 12-for-16 for 198 yards and three scores in the 35-6 win over the Pioneers.

News, Notes from Week 2 High School Football

GAME OF THE WEEK: Central Bucks West 28, William Tennent 20 - The Panthers were not expected to be able to slow down the Bucks' offense enough to hang with them. And while that expectations was true, the Panthers' offense also showed some explosiveness and it made for one heck of a game. Cameron Jenkins' 78 yard run gave the Panthers a 20-15 lead after three quarters, but the Bucks' Sherrod Higginbotham ran for 120 of his 227 yards in the final frame to help his team improve to 2-0.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mark Dukes (Pottsgrove) - The Falcons found themselves up 20-0 early over Pope John Paul early thanks to running of Mark Dukes. The senior scored twice before PJP could blink, including a 48 yard score. Once the Golden Panthers got on the board, Duke was there again to push the lead even further. In the 53-14 win Dukes ran for 135 yard on 16 carries and found the end zone four times.

News, Notes from Week 1 of High School Football

Chris Kane
GAME OF THE WEEK: Plymouth Whitemarsh 20, Perkiomen Valley 16 - It was a see-saw battle and at different times both teams felt in control. Clay Domine's field goal in fourth quarter gave the Vikings its first lead of the game and little time left for the Colonials to work. P.W.'s Fullback Corey Kelly pushed past exhaustion and his second touchdown and his two-yard score with 2:38 left allowed the Suburban One team outlast the Pac-10 squad. CLICK HERE TO READ THE GAME STORY

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chris Kane (LaSalle) - The Explorers 20-7 win over North Penn, the team that ended their season one win away from the state championship last year, saw new faces shine. First year starting quarterback Chris Kane started his senior year with a bang by throwing for 286 yards and three scores. The Explorers expectations might have just taken a giant step in the right direction if the passing game continues to be that dangerous with Kane under center. CLICK HERE TO READ THE GAME STORY

Laquille Nesbitt
BREAKOUT STARS
Laquille Nesbitt (Archbishop Wood) -  The seniors from last year's state title team are gone, but the Vikings goals do not changes and it is thanks to players like Laquille Nesbitt. The Northeast transfer started his seniors year with 115 yards and two scores on the ground in their 44-7 win over Bensalem. CLICK HERE TO READ THE GAME STORY

Dan Murphy (Wissahickon) - The Wissahickon Trojans barely squeaked by William Tennent last season, but this year it was not that tense in the final seconds, or the second quarter for that matter. The 43-7 blowout was led by senior running Dan Murphy, whose 119 yards was the bulk of the Trojans' 308 yards on the ground. CLICK HERE TO READ THE GAME STORY
