Here is my annual all-league selections.
The players on these teams displayed their skills in the suburbs of Philadelphia, on teams the four JRC (Journal Register Company) papers covered. The papers are the Lansdale Reporter, Montgomery Media, Times Herald and the Mercury.
These are unofficial all-league selections, just one man's opinion based on what I have seen, read, or heard over the last three months.
Without further adieu...
BOYS
FIRST TEAM
Amir Hinton (Abington) |
Dave Krmpotich (LaSalle): The Colgate kid dominated down low, using his 6-7 frame on both sides of floor. He helped the Explorers make another deep playoff run.
Jimmy Murray (Plymouth-Whitemarsh): Never a shot he did not think he could make, this shooting guard guided the Colonials into the district finals and the PIAA quarterfinals. He was a big part of one of the more dangerous back-courts in the state.
Matt Penecale (Abington): Hinton held the team high in points per game, but Penecale has meant so much to the program over he first years. A point guard that rebound and score, this kid was nearly a triple-double every night and the face and personality of the Ghosts.
Tim Guers (Germantown Academy): A stretch four that added some flavor to the Patriots. Guers can back in with the big men or step out at show his range. All five first-teamers are seniors who had very special seasons.
Danny Long (Pennridge) |
Xzavier Malone (Plymouth-Whitemarsh)
Luke Coonaghan (Archbishop Wood)
Colin Mulvaney (Jenkintown)
Justin Ardman (Methacton)
Danny Duffy (Lower Moreland) |
Joe Molettiere (Pennridge)
Danny Duffy (Lower Moreland)
Sam Lindgren (Germantown Academy)
Sean Griffin (Phil-Mont Christian)
Terrell Willis (Christopher Dock)
HONORABLE MENTION
Zach Muredda (Pennridge)
Simeon Fryer (Upper Dublin)
Andre Mitchell (Plymouth-Whitemarsh)
Kit Najee-Walls (LaSalle)
Carnell Harley (Academy New Church)
GIRLS
FIRST TEAM
Nicole Munger (C.B. West) |
Bailey Greenberg (Archbishop Wood): A constant in a year of
turnover and the Vikings still found a way to reach the state title game. New coach, new players, same old standout Greenberg.
Ashley Jones (Cheltenham): Insane to think she just completed her sophomore season and is already over 1,000 points. This guard with a nose for the net is just getting started in the record breaking accolades with the Panthers.
Mackenzie Carroll (Central Bucks West): She is never afraid to let it fly and her clutch shooting has her team with finishing out one of the more memorable season. Carroll carried the Bucks for stretches this season and deserves to be a first-team player.
Deja Rawls (Abington): What a career for the Lady Ghosts, who took her team to the PIAA quaterfinals. Any other season she would be player of the year, but there were a ton of strong girl basketball programs from the area this winter.
Aubree Brown (Wood) |
