To help pass the time between now and the start of the 2013 PIAA High School Football season I am going to be giving a look at two teams a day. I will give try to call out a few impact student athletes on offense, defense, as well as pinpoint one of the storylines as they open training camp.

Check this blog all season for scores, stats, and predictions, and players of the week...

Head Coach: Drew Gordon

Last year's record: 12-2 overall (3-1 in AAAA PCL)

Training Camp Question: A new era of football for the Philadelphia Eagles has directly benefited the LaSalle Explorers, who just so happened to be looking for a new starting quarterback. Chris Kane catapulted from tight end to a All-League signal caller. Kyle Shurmur, the son of Eagles' offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, was no tight end. He just is coming from Ohio, where he lived when the father Shurmur was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Shurmur has the size, 6-4, 210, but not so much experience. The Philadelphia Catholic League is sure to test the transfer out immediately.

Offensive Standout: Jr. Jimmy Herron (RB/WR)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Zaire Franklin (LB)
Breakout: Jr. Kyle Shurmur (QB)

Head Coach: Mark Mayson

Last year's record: 6-3 overall (4-2 in BAL)

Training Camp Question: Mark Mayson has been rolling out his Wishbone Offense for over three decades now and more times than not he gets his hard nosed teams to execute. Mayson's mindset is perform a few things well, if not to perfection, tackle on defense, and the wins will follow. The fullback dive is a main stay and this season with the powerful Joe Leventhal carrying the quick pitch power plays, the Lions should be able to give the BAL a run for its money. Mayson molds minds and makes athletes into football players.

Offensive Standout: Sr. Joe Leventhal (FB)
Defensive Standout: Sr. Anthony Morales (DE)
Breakout: Sr. Ryan Killion (RB/LB)

Check back tomorrow for Methacton and Norristown
